Social Capital is a directory of professionals who've agreed to talk to your students — about their career, their path, and what the job's really like. Register your school and your guidance counsellor gets full access, free.

More than 900 DEIS schools in Ireland and roughly 160,000 students in them. The directory is free to all of them and there is no version of this where that changes.

How it works

What a school actually gets

A guidance counsellor registers, gets a login, and browses the directory. If you want somebody to come in and talk, you email us and we sort it. That is the entire process and there is nothing else to learn.

Names, not job descriptions

Professionals across every sector, from people three years out of school to people running the place. Searchable by industry and by how long they have been at it.

A whole year group, or six students with a specific interest. Email us and we find the person and organise it. You do not fill in a form.

Junior and senior, and the junior ones matter more than you'd think

Someone fifteen years in brings the wider view. Someone three years in is close enough that a student believes them. The second is harder to find and more useful than it sounds.

Nobody's phone number changes hands

Mentors' contact details are not visible to you, to students, or to anything on this website. They sit in a separate place only we can open, and we make the introductions. That is deliberate.

What's on it

The sectors nobody brings up

Not only the routes that get mentioned in January, but the rest of them, including several that need no degree and pay from the first year.

Technology: Software, product, design, data. An unusual amount of it for a country this size, and a good deal of it in Irish companies nobody has heard of.
Healthcare: Medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy. Routes run from straight after the Leaving Certificate to a conversion course a decade later.
Law: Solicitor, barrister, legal executive, in-house. From large Dublin practices to one-solicitor offices, and the work is nothing alike.
Finance: Banking, accountancy, insurance, fintech. Several of the qualifications can be earned while employed and paid, which students are rarely told.
Trades: Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, construction. A SOLAS apprenticeship pays from year one with no fees. The most under-explained option in the country.
Media & communications: Journalism, broadcasting, PR, marketing, content. An old tradition in the first two and a fast-moving industry in the rest.
